One-pager
Offer a $95 scalp consult this week.
HumanTouch is a 15-minute chair-side service. You film three scalp zones on a phone, StyFit builds the report, and you walk the client through a private link. Software pays for itself on the first client.
What you are selling
Not software. A named service on the menu that answers the question already happening in your chair: “Why is it thinning / shedding / not responding to product?”
15 minutes · $95
For thinning, shedding, breakage, or “my products aren’t working.” Phone imaging + a private report you review together. Rescan in 8 weeks.
Paste that into your booking tool, Instagram highlight, and the front-desk binder. Change the price if your market supports $125–$150; do not go below $75 or it feels like a gadget, not a consult.
The money
| Item | Number |
|---|---|
| Studio software | $49 / month (30 reports) |
| Consult price (recommended) | $75–$150 · start at $95 |
| Break-even | 1 consult pays the month |
| Where the real money is | Treatment, take-home, 8-week rescan |
Clients are not buying a scan. They are buying certainty, a plan, and a reason to come back. Charge for the consult. Attach retail after the report, not before.
Equipment
You do not need a clinic. You need a sharp close-up of the scalp and steady hands.
Works today
- iPhone or recent Android, rear camera
- Bright, even light — ring light or window, not overhead yellow
- Hair clips, tail comb, alcohol wipe for the lens
- Quiet station for 15 minutes
Better (optional kit)
- Phone-clip dermatoscope / trichoscope (~$80–$200)
- Or a USB trichoscope if you already own one
- Same three zones either way — consistency beats gear
If you are on the fence, start with the phone. Upgrade the lens after you have run ten consults and know the service sticks.
Three zones, every time
Film short clips (about 10–20 seconds each), moving slowly. Part the hair. Get the camera close enough to see individual follicles, not a pretty hair shot.
Where they notice thinning first
Vertex / high crown. Clip surrounding hair. Slow circle, then a still pause.
The comparison zone
Center part, a few inches behind the hairline. Same distance from the scalp as the crown clip.
Hairline and temples
Front hairline plus one temple. Clients remember this zone — show it on the report.
Plus anywhere they point. If the client raises a specific spot — an itchy patch, a scar, thinning behind one ear — film that too and note it as their primary concern. It gets its own row in the report. It never replaces one of the three: the three zones are what make the eight-week rescan comparable.
Upload through your HumanTouch link. Stay with the client or start the wash — the report is a private web link, not a PDF you print in the back.
The 15-minute visit
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0–2 min | Intake: shedding, products, last color/keratin, meds they volunteer. No diagnosis talk. |
| 2–8 min | Clip, light, three zone videos, plus anything they flagged. Narrate what you are filming so it feels like a consult. |
| 8–12 min | Upload. Offer water / start a treatment if you already booked one. |
| 12–15 min | Open the report on your phone or iPad. Walk findings. Recommend one in-salon service, one take-home, 8-week rescan. |
If the report is still processing, text the link and book a 10-minute review (in person or FaceTime) within 24 hours. Do not let the link die in their messages with no walkthrough.
Who to offer it to
- Anyone who says thinning, shedding, breakage, itchy scalp, or “nothing is working”
- Extension clients before a new install
- Postpartum and perimenopause clients who already trust you
- Not: an open sore, sudden patches, or “I need a doctor.” Send those out. HumanTouch is not a diagnosis.
What not to do
- Do not lead with “AI” or “clinical trichoscopy” at the chair. Lead with “we can see the scalp, not just the hair.”
- Do not discount the consult to $20 to “get people in.” It trains the wrong expectation.
- Do not skip the rescan. The second visit is where trust and retail compound.
